Tesco Business Services & Technology (TBST) was established in Budapest in 2019, supporting the Tesco retail business in Central Europe and the Tesco Group. TBST is part of our global business services and technology organisations within Tesco.

In Budapest, our Technology hub currently employs near 100 – and growing number – of highly trained software engineers and managers who are implementing global software development projects across fulfilment, supplier and product management, online and in-store loss prevention, and our online grocery sites.

Our approach to software development

Our goal is to bring significant changes to the market by using the latest technologies. We are focusing on a large variety of modern technologies from the backend space and frontend to UX, UI and even data science and engineering.

Our teams continuously overview what tools and methodologies fit the problems the best. We work with: Java, JavaScript, C#, Scala, Spark, C++, Kotlin, Go, Python, AWS/Azure, React, GraphQL, Kubernetes & Docker, Agile and scrum and the list continues.

We aim to drive business value through innovation and to create an organization that fundamentally transforms the retail environment. We put accountability and ownership on the individuals and their teams in order to run a horizontal organization where teamwork is extremely important.

We are responsible for the software throughout the lifecycle and maintain a DevOps culture employing continuous integration and delivery. Our teams are dedicated to products, programs and projects, each taking ownership of their design, coding, testing, QA, deployment and maintenance, which are facilitated by their managers or rotating scrum masters.

We're working on the most exciting solutions together with our tech hubs in the UK, Cracow and India: AI powered self-checkout stores, Clubcard, online shopping, mobile applications, real time monitoring of Tesco tills, price and promo setup API, transport route engines, same day delivery service and more.

Work-life Balance

We are family-friendly workplace offering flexible working hours. Everyone can work remotely and we let our teams take their own office equipment - monitors, chairs, etc. - home. Our employee assistance program provides legal, psychological and financial support and consultation called ICAS for our colleagues and their relatives.

Our tech stack & projects

We develop the vast majority of Tesco’s IT solutions. Our monitoring system runs on over 70,000 checkouts in real time and we also take part in the development of the IT background of the same day delivery service and checkout-free Tesco stores. We mostly use Java, JavaScript and Microsoft Azure, but we can choose the best tools for the actual job.
