Current Role: Delivery Manager – Dotcom
Location: Greenford Customer Fulfilment Centre
Joined Tesco: October 2012
One of the best things about working for Tesco is the great work-life balance. I was able to work as a Dotcom delivery driver alongside my studies at university; now I have a young daughter and can spend time caring for her.
After graduating, I moved into stores and started on the Retail Options programme. Firstly, I was a trainee manager at Pinner Superstore and was signed off as a manager in April 2015. Wanting to sample as much of the business as possible, I worked as Grocery team manager in superstores, spending time in stock control and compliance, and as a deputy manager. I met a lot of people before coming back to Dotcom in my current role.
“Experience is a problem that a lot of people my age struggle with. But that’s exactly what Tesco gives you.”
Doing lots of courses and spending time in different departments has really helped my development. 'Options' gives you loads of experience; I’d recommend everyone to follow the structures and deadlines set out for you, while looking out for any other development prospects. The more you do and learn, the more motivated you are to progress even further. I have regular one-to-ones to discuss what I want to get out of my development, so I choose my own direction. If you prove you can do it, then the opportunities will arise.
“The opportunities have been a gift to me.”
Looking after nearly 600 drivers means every day is different, and the people I work with are great; we often go for days out and meet up, it’s a fantastic place to work.
The benefits are great too; I’ve managed to get discounts on cinema tickets (I go a lot!), days out, holidays and I use my 10% colleague discount every time I shop!
We’re inspiring and helping colleagues to look after their whole well-being.
