We are proud to have many former and serving military people working in our business, including Mike Hainsworth, who works as a Financial Analyst in Group Tax.

“Prior to joining the team in Tesco, I was a soldier in the British Army and served as an engineer by trade. I am proud to have served my country and to be part of a courageous family that brings freedom and safety to everyone.

The military inspired my passion for teamwork and focus, which I bring to my current role as a Financial Analyst. It taught me perseverance, triumph and to have a sense of belonging.

I was medically discharged from the British Army in 2013, after six years of active service which included a tour of duty in Afghanistan. I decided to further my education and enrolled on a mathematics with finance degree at the University of Southampton. At the same time, I was working part time in a Tesco store in Southampton. In 2017, I joined the Finance team in Welwyn Garden City.

What I enjoy the most about working for Tesco is the similar hierarchy to that of the military, and the good work/life balance. I enjoy my role in Group Tax, where I am looking after multiple projects and using the latest technologies to automate our current processes and maximise output. I have a great passion for finance and technology, which makes it a perfect fit.

I currently look after veterans at Tesco as part of the Armed Forces network, and link to the Disability at Tesco colleague network, too. I am a firm believer that everyone is welcome at Tesco, and we treat people how they would like to be treated.”
