Four years ago I found myself working 13 hour days, seven days a week for a company I had fallen out of love with.

I applied for a role as an In Store Commercial Gas Engineer at Tesco and I haven’t looked back since.

Early on, my manager recognised my potential, to be honest I’d never really thought about career development or being a manager myself. I didn’t really think I was management material.

With a great mentor and an offer for a place on a development programme, I gained confidence and improved my leadership skills with variety of training and support.

An opportunity to step up as a General Service Manager in London presented itself, which I accepted. I have been doing this role for five months now and have learnt a lot and had some great feedback.

When it comes to training and learning new skills, Tesco are absolutely fantastic and make sure that all of my current qualifications are kept up to date.

I love that every day is unique and challenging. Working across a variety of stores in the London region, managing my team and seeing them achieve inspires me to come to work.

I’m most proud of the fact that my team and I really can make a difference, we keep our customers and colleagues warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There is no greater feeling when you go into a store that’s having issues and you discover the root of the problem, and get everything back up and running again.

My home life has improved too, I spend a lot more time with my family, working flexible shift patterns means that I can finish in time to pick up my daughter from nursery every day.
